Rabies? Fleas?
Yes.
It's a dead prairie dog. On our deck.
There are no and I repeat NO prairie dog colonies near our house.
Poor prairie dog. He/she wandered into the WRONG yard.
Tex and Izze received rabies boosters the next day.
Need I say more?

Spaghetti sauce on the ceiling.....
Cooking dinner last night and I reached up to grab a pan from the pot rack that hangs from our ceiling. Sure enough, there is spaghetti sauce splatters. Too bad Tex cannot lick that off, instead Brian was up there on a bar stool cleaning the splatters off the ceiling.
Until the next escapade........

Spaghetti Sauce
Notice how clean this container is? It once held spaghetti sauce; a nice meaty sauce with beef and italian sausage. It was to go in the compost bin this morning, BUT Tex got to it first!
Guess where the container was?
Guess where the container was?
YEP, in the SINK.
NOTICE the red spaghetti sauce stains?
They are on our counter across the way from the sink too.....and on the floor and in the living room, where the container was finally found by me. Not happily, I might add!!!
And here is the culprit, looking pretty innocent!

Doggie vacay
It is good to know the pups are getting along well at grandma and grandpa's house. There have been no reports of ill behavior from Tex.
Although......I suppose they could be sparing us any details for now.

Gluten Free rum cake is Tex approved
The plate and plastic wrap that once held a GF rum cake.
At least it was a gluten-free rum cake.
We realized Tex had a gluten sensitivity about a year ago when he would snort and sneeze after consuming bread. He loves bread. And he loves when we forget to close the pantry door because he can get the bread; whole loaves. He does not discriminate; sandwich bread, French baguettes.
Now that we have gone gluten-free, it helps him as well. He does not snort after consuming GF bread or rum cake.
We knew he liked cake; he is partial to chocolate.
Our first experience with Tex and cake was a month after we adopted him from Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue. It was a Sunday; Mother's Day, in fact. We had eaten lunch and all four of us enjoyed a piece of Whole Foods decadent chocolate cake. We knew Bijou (pictured below) would not jump up on our high counters to get the cake and we just assumed our new lab would not either.
We left for Denver to go see a show. We returned home to the chocolate cake on the floor and most of it was eaten. Naturally, you worry about dogs eating chocolate and we considered going to the emergency vet. The dogs were essentially ok; Bijou was lethargic for two days and Tex was bouncing off the walls for two days. Evidently, we were lucky enough to experience both of the effects of big dogs eating chocolate. From then on, we realized we could not keep food on the counter.
BUT, every now and then............we forget.
Tex was a skinny dog when we adopted him. Now he is about 75 lbs.

green muck
This is not a look of innocence.
AND this is the reason they are looking at me through a door:
GREEN MUCK!
The pool will be no longer in a few weeks. It has been leaking since the fall and we now are going to finally fill it in and make a nice recreation room out of this space. But NOT before Tex (and his sidekick, Izze) had a chance to jump in and swim around the green muck. Sadly, I missed seeing this, his latest escapade.
